Slavery Memorial Year Scheme has been exceeded

We recently announced that the Slavery Memorial Year Scheme was extended until 2 September 2025. At the time, there was ample budget available. However, in recent weeks we have received an overwhelming number of new applications. There are currently 86 pending applications amounting to €1,940,293. €560,308 remains to be distributed. This means that the budget for the European part of the Kingdom has been exceeded.

We regret to inform you that for those from the European part of the Kingdom, we are no longer able to accept new applications for the Slavery Memorial Year Scheme. We anticipate that the available budget will not be sufficient to honour all applications received. It may therefore be the case that some applications will not be able to be processed after all.Applications submitted before 30 May will still be processed in order of receipt.

The part of the budget specifically for the Caribbean part of the Kingdom has not yet reached the grant ceiling. Applicants from the Caribbean part of the Kingdom (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Statia and Saba) may therefore still apply.

We regret that we do not have positive news for those initiatives that took into account the extension of the Memorial Year and were already working on their applications. If you would like further clarification, please contact the Memorial Year Team at herdenkingsjaar@cultuurparticipatie.nl or by using the details below.
