Slavery Memorial Year Scheme extended until 2 September 2024

[Dutch version, version in Papiamento, version in Papiamentu ]

During the Slavery Memorial Year, running from 1 July 2023 to 1 July 2024, special attention will be paid to the history of slavery throughout the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Cultural Participation Fund has introduced a scheme for projects that contribute to commemorating, celebrating and raising awareness about the abolition of slavery and its impact on the present. Due to great interest, the Slavery Memorial Year Scheme has now been extended until 2 September 2024.

Do you have ideas for an interesting project? Or have you previously applied for a grant and would you like to carry out the project again? This is also possible. View our special page and apply for a financial contribution.

For whom?

This scheme supports projects that actively involve people and highlight aspects of history and slavery, create educational materials, stimulate healing processes and/or establish (international) collaboration between institutions. One condition is that applicants are people with a connection to the Dutch slavery past and will take the lead in organising the project in question. For example, these people determine the scope of the project and how it will be implemented. They may also collaborate with, for example, museums, schools or even organisations abroad.
