Cultural education does not have a fixed place in the curriculum within vocational education. Nevertheless, it is relevant for students at vocational institutions to be able to develop creatively. This can be through citizenship education or career orientation and guidance, but also through subject integration with the core subjects or vocational practice-oriented subjects.

With this scheme, we offer cultural and vocational institutions the opportunity to explore, develop, and implement collaboration for a cultural educational project. Cultural education also includes heritage education.

Who can apply for a subsidy?

Applications can be submitted by:

  • a cultural institution
  • a vocational education institution

The organisation needs to be established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The application is always for the collaboration between the cultural institution and the vocational education institution.

What can you apply for?

We support the development and implementation of a cultural education project in secondary vocational education. This involves activities such as the (further) development, preparation, implementation and evaluation of the cultural education project. The basis of the project is the question of the secondary vocational education institution. The living environment and input of students is an important starting point for the design and implementation of the project.

Applications can also be made for educational projects that focus on digital content creation (digital born art) or where digital technology is an instrument in the cultural education process (for example working with AI).

The following effects are being worked on in the exploration:
Cooperation

This is the process in which multiple people work together towards the same goal; organizing between individuals and/or organizations. The goal is to achieve or realize something that the parties cannot achieve alone. This arrangement concerns the collaboration between the cultural institution and the vocational education institution, possibly with the lead partner. The project is successful if the collaboration between the cultural institution and the vocational education institution, possibly with the lead partner, has been strengthened.

Vision development

This is the joint development and determination of a cultural education project or collaboration in it. The vision is a joint image, shared by all parties involved, that gives an expectation of the future relevant to cultural education. The project is successful if the vocational education institution and cultural institution have jointly developed a vision on the cultural education project and the collaboration.

Opportunity equality

Every child and young person of every background, origin or place of residence has an equal chance to learn about and with culture and to discover their own creative talents. This can be done within cultural education subjects but also more broadly in (citizenship) education. The project is successful if the activities have increased the equal opportunities of students.

Creative development

This is developing the creative ability to find new and/or unusual but applicable solutions to existing problems. For example, think of fantasizing, playing, dreaming, empathizing, experimenting and reflecting. In this way, students learn to persevere, have courage, fail, feel discomfort and celebrate successes. But also think of the technical skills with which students can express themselves and shape their creative expressions. This creative ability is most strongly developed in a rich cultural learning environment in which young people are stimulated to come up with solutions themselves. The project is successful if the activities for the students contribute to their creative development.

Connection

This is increasing the ability of students to connect with the ideas, perspectives and backgrounds of others. To connect, you need to be open to different ways of thinking and doing. This will help you learn more about the world around you, increase your understanding and learn to work better together. The project is successful if the activities increase the students’ connection with the ideas, perspectives and backgrounds of others.
